The Pistole Parabellum 1908 or Parabellum-Pistole (Pistol Parabellum), popularly known as the Luger, is an iconic, toggle locked, recoil operated, semi-automatic pistol. The design was patented by Georg J. Luger in 1898 and produced by German arms manufacturer Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) starting in 1900; it was an evolution of the 1893 Hugo Borchardt designed C-93.

The Luger was made popular by its use by Germany during World War I and World War II. Though the Luger pistol was first introduced in 7.65x22mm Parabellum, it is notable for being the pistol for which the 9x19mm Parabellum (also known as the 9mm Luger) cartridge was developed.

  • "...the round, doughnut shaped object to the rear of the gun..." Yup, this show was written for us Americans :)

  • It's true, German engineering surpasses American engineering by far in WWII. They had better tanks, guns... but they had one problem.

    Their "Fuhrer" was insane.

  • Shouldn't the luger be more legal in some tigh-lawed countries since it has and obvious sign that it is unloaded?

  • The 1911 is a superior pistol to the Luger. Larger caliber and the design is just as beautiful.

  • @MegaMrDamo Indeed, even Hiram Maxim, the inventor of the first truly "Automatic" Machinegun, was claimed to be American, while he was actually a citizen.

  • Always make it seem American, it isn't American is it, the man emmigrated from Germany, typical attitude of Americans, full of shit

  • wait did he said everyone who saw it would say "oh yeah thats a luger" uhm NO if i aksed my mom or my friend thomas they wouldnt know it

  • its funny how the amaricans rejected the luger and made there own semi auto gun 1911 and toulk credit for first self loading pistol

  • The animation is wrong at 7:29… the toggle should push the next round off the top of the magazine as it slides forward. The magazine does not push the next round to a position behind the chamber(as shown in the video)…It would fall out!!!

  • Apparently nobody told the writers about the existance of double action revolvers

  • @InTheNameOfCHRISPY On a side note the German engineering was more expensive and time consuming to make, which didnt help when supplying a war

  • @m1911legend Of course:-)
