This is a video of the luggage wrapping service that operates from Brisbane, Melbourne and Manila airports. What a great idea - very effective security, and peace of mind.

  • I can understand the points in this video, but if someone had something bad in their luggage that they put there themselves and got it wrapped. It says no need for the bag to be open at check in. This could be bad if the person planned something bad themselves. Also you can't carry anything sharp in your carry on to open the bag with at your destination.

  • @KimberleyRobbins The operator will go through a checklist with the passenger before wrapping the bag, to ensure that prohibited items are not in there. Also there is a cutting tool supplied, attached to the plastic, to facilitate easy removal at the destination.

  • The key point about using wrapping is that you can see if the bag has been tampered with - the plastic will be cut or ripped. At the end of the day nothing will stop a determined thief from opening any bag - but wrapping will alert you to that fact immediately. Nothing else will. A "spur of the moment" thief will choose an easier target like a bag with exposed zips that can easily be opened with a pen or a key as shown in the video. And you will NEVER know it has happened.

  • why do i only hear this in my left ear?

  • @Battler1234 Oh really? That's a pretty good idea then. I had horrible visions of being in a hotel room trying to punch through the plastic with a pen lol!

  • Hmmm...how hard is it to cut open the plastic wrap behind the scenes? This shows if someone broke into the bag, but it doesn't seem to guard completely against theft itself.

  • very good

  • Yeah I have had this done before and its great, makes you feel safe, when you get to the other end and your bag comes out still wrapped you know no ones been into it, especially because I travel to Asia and India a lot, they are dodgy in some of those places, for me its not what can happen in NZ or Australia but what happens over there, especially when in transit, I wish more airports had this.

  • After seeing how easily locks can be opened I will always seal up my bag!!!
