Shane Anthony Hayes, 40, of Santee, CA passed away Sunday evening, September 17, 2006 unexpectedly at his home.
Born July 8, 1966 in Inglewood, CA, Shane was the son of Linda (Reece) Hayes of Carbon Cliff, IL and David John Hayes of San Diego, CA. He graduated from Keokuk Senior High School, IA in 1985 and attended Tarkio College.
Shane was employed by Hy-Vee Stores in Keokuk, Moline, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, IA. He moved to San Diego in 2005 where he was employed by Valley House Restaurant and Henrys Market of Santee. He was an avid Hawkeye Fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Chelsey Lynn Hayes of Cedar Rapids, IA; his mother and father; sisters, Brenda Engle and husband Bill, of Moline, IL; Kelly Bradley and husband, Tim of LeClaire, IA; brother Kristopher Hayes and wife Regina of Waukee, IA; brother, Michael D. Hayes of Davenport, IA; grandmother, Helen Hayes of Creston, IA and grandfather, Rev. Bernard Reece of Cedar Rapids, IA. Shane is further survived by nieces and nephews, Ben and wife Megan Engle, Brandon, Brittany and Brook Engle, Katelynn, Kennedy Jo, Konnor, Kaden Bradley and Reece Hayes. He had many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, L. G. Hayes and grandmother, Opal M. Reece.
A memorial service for Shane will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at First Assembly of God Church, 3223 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA, officiated by Rev. Tim Bowman of Calvary Church of the Quad Cities. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Cemetery, 4200 First Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the Hayes Family, 1624 29th St. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405

  • What a sad story, behind this poor man's demise. To look at these photo's, and know of his accomplishments in his life, one could never know of the "demons" that lurked inside of him. I wonder what made him so unhappy. At any rate, it's a tragedy. And the ironic way he found to fullfill his mind set, even makes it more so. This tribute is a testimony to how much he is loved, and how much he is missed. If only he had known this, all before...
