In my line of work you have got to keep repeating things over and over and over again. You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror. -Katie Couric, Sept 6/06, CBS
"Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have." -Richard Salent, Former President CBS News
Part 2: ...I am paid $150 a week for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things. If I should permit honest opinions to be printed in one issue of my paper, like Othello, before 24 hours, my occupation would be gone."-John Swinton (1830-1901), Editorial Page Editor, The NY Times, 1860-1870 & Editorial Page Writer & Chief of Staff, The NY Sun, 1883
John Swinton, Twilight Club in New York City on April 12, 1883
Part 1: "There is no such thing in America as an independent press, unless it is in the country towns. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dare to write his honest opinions, and if you did you know beforehand they would never appear in print..."-John Swinton (1830-1901), Editorial Page Editor, The NY Times, 1860-1870 & Editorial Page Writer & Chief of Staff, The NY Sun, 1883
"We live in a dirty and dangerous world. There are some things the general public does not need to know and shouldn't. I believe democracy flourishes when the government can take legitimate steps to keep its secrets, and then the press can decide whether to print what it knows." -Katherine Graham, Publisher, Washington Post and Bilderberger Member
Part 2: "It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries." - David Rockefeller
Part 1: "We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years." - David Rockefeller
Hey, I just had an idea What if we adopt a real "fair and balanced" system again in this country. Wouldn't that be refreshing??? Then maybe very probably the only voice for the opposition on FOXNEWS would get a chance to speak out about the issues.
Way to go, I remember the 'fairness doctrine' working for America. That is what the Editorial Corner on the local newscast every night or week, depended on size of area, was about. We need to get that back.
"There is no such thing in America as an independent press.
You know it and I know it...
The business of the Journalist is to destroy truth;
To lie outright;
To pervert;
To vilify;
To fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his county and his race for his daily bread."
-John Swinton, newsman and former editor at The New York Times
