The setting: 11th grade IB Spanish B, Awty International School, sometime in 2004

The assignment: somehow make something that will discourage children from watching too much TV

The product: this "commercial," released by the so-called Coalition Against Children Made Foolish By Television

The plot: A young boy sits down to watch television and eat his Pop Tarts. By sheer coincidence, when he turns up the volume of the TV, the man he is watching is in the process of declaring that Pop Tarts are dangerous and will eat him. The boy is terrified, throwing his Pop Tarts away from him and making a scene. Luckily, his friend arrives at that very moment. The boy tells his friend that the Pop Tarts are going to eat him and begs his friend to help him, but the friend simply calls him crazy and leaves. Having now lost his very last friend due to yet another TV-induced bout of foolishness, the boy cries to himself, all alone. The narrator informs us smarter children that if we don't want to appear foolish, we should not spend too much time in front of the TV like this idiot.

The irony: you figure it out.

Starring Thomas Martin, Clay Chiles, and Thomas O'Conor

And featuring a brief appearance by Sra. Alina Rozas

Disclaimer: I had no video editing software when we did this, so it's very crude. The accompanying music was recorded onto the actual tape, not added later.

P.S. - If you can identify the titles of all three songs used, you're as sad a person as I am.
