Stan Rogers - Barrett's Privateers

I agree that he appeared much older, but Stan Rogers was actually only 33 years old when he tragically perished in a passenger jet fire in 1983. The plane safely landed, but a devastating conflagration erupted within moments of the plane touching the ground. Survivors reported that Stan had an opportunity to get out of the inferno but that he chose to stay aboard the burning aircraft to help other passengers escape. Unfortunately, He succumbed in the blaze along with several other victims. RIP

I heard Stan wrote this after being relegated to singing backup in other people's chanties. Don't know if it's true, but I sure hope it is. I never hear his work without being moved. Gone, not forgotten.

I've frequented various Irish pubs in the Montreal area in these past several years, and nothing compares to Stan Rogers version.

There are so many versions of the song ..But Stan's is the best...
