I read somewhere, that the Russias government predicted the fall in water level when they diverted the rivers that fed the Aral Sea, but that was fine because they planned to connect it to another body of water, (Probably the Caspian Sea?) with a approximately 250 atomic explosions. Only 2 of the proposed 250 were ever detonated
