A 15 year old Chumash youth brought up to the Carpinteria School Board that he found the use of the Native American Mascot and imagery at his High School offensive.

The school board had voted to remove the imagery, but then the city of Carpinteria became hysterical; stating that they didnt want any outsiders telling them what to do, and that the MAJORITY had spoken; the needs or wants of a few does not concern them.

To date, here are a few examples of kind of tactics used that want to keep the imagery at the high school:

-- Making death threat towards a 15 year old student (now on two occasions)

-- Entering a board member's home

-- Harassing a board member at a place of worship

-- Threatening/ bullying/ intimidation/stalking board members and those committee members that are in favor of removing the imagery

It has gone beyond the use of the offensive imagery. These are now civil and human rights violations. This is our demonstration against these violations, January 2009.

  • How can you say this is offensive? I am Italian. Should I be offended when i see a picture of a gangster or a fat Italian chef holding a spoon in one hand and a chalkboard in the other that says special of the day? This nation is becoming a land of pussies and baby's.

  • @coolsax64 - actually your family and Nation should be offended that your a sexist asshole for using an demeaning word like pussy. That is thte extent of your vocabulary? wow, that only adds merit to your argument-

  • @corine68 I am free to use whatever word I wish. The constitution guarentee's that or did you miss that part in school?

  • @coolsax64 - yup you are, and as I said before it speaks VOLUMES as you as a person-

no need to keep corresponding with me- other wise that is HARRASSMENT- and there are laws about that too-

  • @coolsax64 Good Idea!

  • @KanuMom While your at it, why dont you try and ask for your native land back too...

  • @KanuMom Lets all be nice and smoke um peace pipe ugh!

  • @coolsax64

The issue was whether it is educationally appropriate to stereotype an ethnic group. Fortunately for you Italians, no one will use you as a mascot because no one associates any positive attributes to you. You're welcome.

  • @corine68 Oh my god. You are sick in the head.

  • @ceomeye Whats really ofensive is how native americans drink so much, live like slob's and pretty much don't give a darn and blame it on everybody else that they are the way they are.
