BOTH step at the same time to the rhythm of the orchestra.
Strict respect for rhythm is a "must" in Tango dance. Thus, we must learn to distinguish the melody of the rhythm because our movements will be based on (tempo, pulse) orchestra rhythmic pulse, NOT on melody.

Melody contributes to feelings, and the most sensitive take it as an inspiration to spontaneously create a choreography.

On the contrary, rhythm marks the exact moments in which choreography can be performed (movements and weight changes from one foot to the other).

  • BULL****

  • In regard to the rhythmic pulse, how to distinguish it? It would be great if you drew lines and dots for many figures (and videos), because in this one the difference in the speed of the movements is too subtle.

  • Very helpful advice about rhythm vs melody! Thanks!
