NOTE: Joshua is a special needs young man with cerebral palsy. Jesse, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever had his life cut short when stricken with canine leukemia. Jesse was Josh's one true best friend -- he loved Josh unconditionally and vice versa. When we first got a Toller, we were concerned that this high-energy, excitable breed might not have been the best choice for Josh. But we soon learned that although Jess would jump up and flatten anyone who got in the way of his excitement, with Josh this sensitive and intuitive creature was gentle and loving. Out of Josh's extreme and distressing sadness and sorrow, came the surprising ability to put this little tribute together on his own with no direction. It was not only astounding but once again proved that love has no bounds.

July 14, 2011: The response to Joshua's little tribute to his Jesse has been awesome. Thank you to all who have made such touching and loving comments. I think we've cried nearly as much over some of the expressions of loss that others have experienced as we've done over the loss of Jesse. It makes one realize that dogs are, indeed, not "just dogs" after all, but an integral and necessary part of our families.

I cried and cried. I lost my Toller, my Heart, 7 months ago. Watching this video brought back painful yet wonderful memories of my Baby. Jesse looks so much like Piper it's like watching him all over again. Be strong.

Absolutely brilliant and heartwarming video. Watched it through tears, remembering my dear dogs that Ive had in my life. After 4 years without that special bond someone special has just come into my life a four and half month old sprollie, now I cry with joy not pain. Thankyou so much for sharing dear Jesse with us. What a beautiful gracious wonderful jesse. We can never get over the lost of our best companion best friend, a family member. Thats why though time will let us get by but wounds will still pain, tears will still comes by no matter how many yrs pass by. Thanks for sharing, you have done jessy proud to have a good, passionate, caring, affectionate, loving owner. On behalf of jesse, i thank you too. As Not many dogs/cats out there have what jesse had.

@joshua80wv I'll say this: when people love dogs (as I do) you don't need any words--none at all. And if you don't know and love dogs, there are not enough words, in the universe, to make someone understand. You never, ever, get over loosing your friend, you just learn to live with it, little by little, and it is always with you, part of you, both the sadness and the fond memories. May we all one day, in a better day, meet our friends again.
