Director Francis Ford Coppola's epic trilogy returns to its former glory, complete with all-new special features, from June 2 2008 ~

Regularly topping the polls when it comes to the all time favourite films of both critics and film fans alike, The Godfather is one of Hollywood's cinematic masterpieces. Featuring an all-star cast of Marlon Brando (Last Tango in Paris), James Caan (Misery), Robert Duvall (Apocalypse Now), Diane Keaton (Annie Hall) and the then relatively unknown Al Pacino (Scarface), The Godfather continues to set the standard for mafia films and to inspire both Hollywood and contemporary culture.

Now, more than three decades after it won the Academy Award® for Best Picture, director Francis Ford Coppola's classic films The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II will once again be enjoyed by audiences as they were originally meant to be seen, thanks to a meticulous restoration by Paramount Home Entertainment, overseen by Coppola himself. On June 2 2008, both fully restored films will debut on DVD, along with a newly remastered The Godfather: Part III, in THE GODFATHER: THE COPPOLA RESTORATION, a 5-disc collection loaded with a host of all-new special features.

The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II underwent extensive frame-by-frame examination and restoration utilising state-of-the-art digital technology in this historic restoration effort, which required more than a year to complete. The new special features take a look at the complexities of the restoration process and provide new information about how the film almost didn't come to pass as we know it. "The Masterpiece That Almost Wasn't" relates the unlikely events, intrigue, allegiances and luck that put together the unknown director with the unwanted cast and contains interviews with most of the living players and many of the films' admirers. Other featurettes include "When the Shooting Stopped," and "Godfather World," which takes a look at The Godfather's influence on popular culture today. Each film includes a commentary by Coppola.

  • @sandyman002 It's not a bad film. It's an excellent film. However, when compared to the greatest films of all time it doesn't stand a chance.

  • what's the music piece called from 00:50 and to the end?? I'd like to learn that one:)

  • Whats the point in putting up a restored HD video, if you are only posting it in SD - 240p !!!

You might as well just post a black & white version.

  • @sandyman002 I'd say it's more misunderstood than bad.
