NEWAYGO, Mich. (WZZM)-The FAA is investigating a plane crash involving a Grand Rapids man.

It happened just after 2 p.m. on Hess Lake near Smuggler's Cove restaurant in Newaygo.

Dale Buttermore, 73, says he had just finished eating at the restaurant, and was trying to take off from atop the frozen lake, when one of his wheels got caught on a snow bank, and his plane flipped.

People inside the restaurant came out to help the man out of his plane. He suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
