In spite of the Morons who knock this project out of hand. Most motors are tested with compressed air, its much safer. Ive seen videos of it running with fuel, it works.

I am, reminded of the K cycle engine and the Wankle rotary engine.

Both projects died because of technical issues. A friend of mine had a car with the Wankle and that little power plant drive that car like you would not believe.

Get over the idea of a piston moving up and down, see the future.

This design was part of an EXTERNAL combustion design from a long time ago. Was not very fuel efficient and it was to complicated to be used on a daily basis.

@mrhkyfan if the fins were enclosed then you could easily watercool it. I was at 2005 sema show when he first announced it and he did run it forced induction up to 120psi if I remember correctly.

you're right, also, as much as I like this compact idea with an air cooled surface, if he just put an option for water passages through the block, it might attract more attention. Also, why not turbocharge this engine?

Facinating design

Personally i cant see any problem that cant be solved on its engineering, given the right amount of persistance, just because something didn't work before does not mean you can't try it again, especially if you have a variation that may solve the problems and or time has gone by and there are more suitable materials available at better prices as happens.

Building the first practical Aeroplane was built ontop of a pile of failures and unavailable engineering technology.

Look up swing-piston on engine Wikipedia. This idea has been around for a long time.

Other versions never made it to production for technical reasons. This one has the same problems the others did.

I'm not knocking the spirit of the independent inventor - that is where all the important advances have come from. Unfortunately, this idea is nothing more than a slight variation of an old idea that already failed. Good inventors need to get outside the box and develop completely original ideas.
