Literally means "division". The div tag is used to "divide" a web page into different sections. These sections are boxes.
We use the div tag to generate boxes on a web page, and then we use CSS to style these boxes.

Lets check out another description:-

What's a div and why do we use it?

A div tag is really just a container. You can think of it as a box, where you can specify how wide it is, how tall it is, what color it is in, if it has a border, and where it's placed on the page.

Div containers are preferable to tables for CSS designers because they tend to resize well.

  • Thanks for answering...so I can use APs to align my page?

  • @labradoido ..avoid..AP divs ..use DIV tags brother as far as possible

  • Very clear tutorial, thank you! I've learned a lot. I just have a small doubt there...when do I use div tags and AP Div?

  • @labradoido well very good questions ...firstly avoid AP divs as far as possible , and use them only if you wish to tuck them in the corners or the edges of the pages ..what is also good abt AP divs is that u can overlap them ..fixed type divs are very similar ..I personally use Aps only for CORNERS AND EDGES OF THE WEBPAGE..

  • thank you, you are GREAT :)
