I still have some adjusting to do on this flame bar design to increase the backpressure.
I just wish adjustable LPG regulators were not so expensive. I'm using a cheap hardware store propane regulator.

@khaeotixs Thanks! I based the design off reference photos from companies that normally rent the devices.
The build process is actually pretty simple, but an understanding of both low pressure gas (and specifically heavier-than-air gasses like propane) is important to insure the device is safe

i've only just got round to seeing the video. i'm nubby off the PS btw, just thought i'd say i've seen something similar to this being used on set on emmerdale (a british soap) and yours looks exactly the same. good job mate!

very dangerous !

@manox1337 Any time you are working with fire on set, safety is a concern. The idea behind this device is to provide a level of safety and control. With this device there are 3 ways to stop the low pressure gas flow and extinguish the fire. (at the tank, on the bar, and on the hose) That combined with a fire blanket and extinguishers on set (as well as trained crew and a safety briefing) help make this as safe as possible.

Thanks for this video! Earlier this year I made a flamebar from "your" design.
I was supposed to be used in "Purified in Blood - Under den Svarte Himmel" music video (it's on YouTube), but due to wind, we were unable to use it for the shoot.
But I made a quick test the day I made it and put it on youtube aswell :)

@obadja Nice! Sorry to hear about the wind. Flame bars are pretty darn handy. I've used both of mine in quite a few shoots/scenes so far. They are handy for interactive lighting, even if you don't see the flame. We recently had one shoot where we used both the square and straight flame bars. The square was used to simulate a burning barrel, and also to provide interactive lighting on a couple actors. The straight bar was also used for interactive lighting on a single actor.

is it simple as pipes and holes and tubing or is there a huge safety feature? great video :)

@LeHandamdeCards The design is quite simple, but there are a number of safety features. The flow regulator on the tank keeps throttles the release of propane , the line from the tank to the flame bar has a quick disconnect, and the flow valve on the bar allows for adjustment/extinguishing the flame. This creates 3 ways to disable the effect. But conceptually, it's just a pipe with holes hooked up to propane.
This bar has already been used in a few of our shoots, and it's performed quite well
