This is what the Icom 735 sounds like when one of the VCO caps are corroded. Very crunchy on the sidebands. The easy fix is to take off the PA unit on the top, and mark the arrows on the VCO Caps through the holes in the metal shield. Then turn them 90 degrees in each direction 10 or more times to free up corrosion. Turn them back to original positions and put the PA unit back on and make sure everything works! A better fix is to replace the plastic VCO caps with ceramic ones.

  • I just performed the ceramic capacitor upgrade. Not for the faint of heart but it is doable for the person with good soldering skills and a DVM. Its well worth it as my 735 is my back-up HF rig. Parts are available from Mouser for $10. Good for another 25 years.

  • I have the same problem whith my IC-735.Thanks for the video you help a lot to find the solution!
