Awwww, when I lived in the city, I would frequent certain places strictly because they had bodega cats! My landlord didn't allow pets, so going into a store and seeing a kitty laying around was awesome.

cats keep bodegas vermin free.... if one adopts a store, the owner of the store shold return the favor and spay/neuter

In a country that still has killing shelters, such as the USA nobody should be allowed to let their cats breed. Be it a pet in a flat or in a shop. There are so many cats desperately needing a home. There is no shortage. Please always adopt, never breed :)

The purpose of the bodega cat is not to be used as a tool, it's a pet, idiot. It's a custom for hispanic corner stores (usually dominican/puerto rican; i should know i'm dominican) to own a pet cat for their stores. They are pets and they treat them exactly how any other normal pet owner would. So what if they let them breed? Should you be ridiculed for letting YOUR cat breed? No, right? Then stfu. The store is their home like any other household. Also toilet water is cleaner than any other.
