Imho, up to a certain age it is a lot easier and may have more resluts to teach children competitve martial arts. And this I say after having taught childrens classes in Aikido for several years.
I don't fully agree with the statements made: Saying that Aikido is great for Kids because it is not conflict based implies that it is more important for kids to learn to get along w/o conflict than for adults. Why should that be the case? Additionally, I feel that most kids get a better workout at common competitive sports such as judo since they don't have to struggle with the difficult philosophy there.
i think it is very well to let children do aikido.
it teaches them to controle yourself all the time, not just when being in a conflict.
And it is a very good introduction if they want to keep on training aikido as an adult
