WABOT-2

I remember seeing the WABOT at the 1984 Tsukuba Science Expo on my first trip to Japan. If I remember correctly, it could play just about anything because it was actually reading the sheet of music. And I remember its voice being clearer.

The Wabot is all the foundational research for the Honda Asimo line. Seriously. Gooooo Waseda U!

It's an interesting example of fine mechanics but otherwise it's one of the weirdest things I've ever seen.

I used to have an instrument like this in our shop when I was demonstrator for YAMAHA Belgium in the 80ies. It's a FX-1, the biggest model of that time. I would have liked to have a demonstrator like this wabot !!! But I didn't and I had to demonstrate it myself the whole journey :-)

That's coolnest video I ever seen on YT. I founded picture of this robot somewhere over the internet - first I tought that was a fake but now I know this was possible those days.
