Dame Shirley Bassey and Lara Fabian! In my opinion, these two vocalists were the highlight of Mekhail Gorbachev's 80th Birthday Celebration, which was held on March 30, 2011. These two ladies are separated by more than a generation, and they each possess different singing styles, vocal pitch, vibrato, and timber. But, what they have in common is talent to the extreme! The voices that these two ladies have come around once every few decades or so, at best!

Mikhail Gorbachev is one of the few people who can justify the label 'The man who changed the world'.

In March 2011, he will turn 80. Outstanding representatives of the world of culture, science, sport, entertainment and politics from around the globe will join together at the Royal Albert Hall 2011 to celebrate the life of the Nobel Peace Prize winner and transformational 20th Century figure. The evening will presented by special guests including Sharon Stone and Kevin Spacey.

She has also sung in Spanish, Portuguese, Russian (e.g., "Любовь похожая на сон", or "Love Resembeling A Dream"), once in Hebrew on Israel's 60th Independence Day celebrations and in German in 1988 for a version of "Croire" (ger.: "glaub" eng.: "believe"), although she speaks neither language fluently. She also speaks a little Dutch (Flemish). She has sold over 18 million records worldwide so far. She is a lyric soprano with a vocal range that spans four octaves from E-flat 3 to G#6.[1] She can belt up to A5.

I liked the Lara Fabian performance, too. But Shirley is in a stratosphere of her own, even much better than talents like Lara Fabian. As for Paul Anka: Thanks for the great My Way lyrics - but leave the the singing of this classic to Sinatra or Dame Shirley.
