    you're insane. they made just as much silly stuff back then as they do now. probably more proportionally, but you don't know about it because it doesn't stand the test of time. that's why the past so often looks better. because all the terrible movie don't get reprints, rereleases. they don't get remembered. and there are amazing movies made in the past 5-10 years by all three countries you mention. kikujiro. trainspotting.
