Creating an RSS Feed With Feedburner

Welcome to http://increaserss.com/ instructional video series. In this video we will be discussing how to create an RSS feed for your blog or website. Before getting into the technical aspects of setting up your feed, we'll first talk about what an RSS feed is. Depending on whom you ask, RSS stands for anything from "Rich Site Summary," "Really Simple Syndication," or a host of other names. These two acronyms are the best descriptions; as an RSS feed allows users to subscribe to content they like, that's frequently updated; and through this subscription, they can conveniently be notified and review these updates through a singular expedient medium.
Let's say you have a favorite blog you like keep tabs on -- such as IncreaseRSS.com, for example. All you need to do is click the RSS feed tool and click subscribe; chose your method for receiving notification of your feed and whenever new content is posted, you'll be notified and able to review the content at your leisure. To review feeds, you use special application designed for specific classifications of feeds; text based feeds can be read using "news aggregators," and podcasts can be accessed through "podcatchers." There are literally thousands of these applications for users to chose from; some cost money, but others are completely free; and they can be used on your PC or mobile device.
There are many advantages for bloggers and website administrators in using RSS feeds to promote their online efforts. Allowing users to subscribe to a feed, makes it easier for them to learn about updates and spur returning and new traffic to their website. By linking your feed through sites like Google's FeedBurner, you're able to reach countless other users, allow feeds to be shared through social media and email; and connect your feed to Google Adsense and monetize your feed!
Bloggers and web designers can also use their RSS feeds to track data for their site, such as the optimizing of their content for search engines, notify or "ping" feed services when they've added new content; and they can setup a Feedcount that allows them to keep track of the number of subscribers to their feed and the statistics of how often they access their subscription. There are many other options that can be enabled, allowing them to personalize the feed.
So let's begin setting up your own RSS feed. If the content you want to create a feed for is through WordPress or Blogger, the first thing is to ignore the first step. These sites, and a few others, automatically create an RSS feed for most of your new content. Creating the feed is only the beginning, and there's more work for you ahead. For WordPress users, you may need to integrate FeedBurner with WordPress, following the steps used through the rest of this tutorial; depending on the theme you use. Now that you've created your feed, you can optimize it using Google's "FeedBurner". To do this, first you'll need a gmail account through Google. Once you're registered and logged in, go to (FeedBurner website address).
On this page is a text box you can click on; here type or paste the URL to your feed. Choose a title and address for your feed. To avoid confusion, make the title here the same as the title of the content your feed links to.
We will now go to the "optimize" section, to personalize our feed settings. You should make sure that the "BrowserFriendly" and "SmartFeed" options are enabled, to ensure maximum compatibility and convenience for subscribers to access your feed. There are other options you can enable to further personalize your feed for the convenience of your subscribers; options, like "FeedFlare," offers subscribers the option to share feeds via social media and by email.
Here we can look at the various ways your feed can be published. One such method that's important to ensure is available to your subscribers, is the option to receive feed notices by email. Enabling "Pingshot," allows the various feed services to be notified whenever you post new content to your feed.
It is here that you can link your feed to a Google AdSense account. If you wish to add one, but don't have an AdSense account, you can start one by going to (AdSense URL).
Once all of the options you wish to enable have been selected, click "Analyze". It may take up to a day before any data for your feed becomes available. Once it does, you'll be able to track the traffic and determine what content your subscribers liked or disliked.
