Superheroes save the world every day. But could they also change the way the rest of the world sees Islam? Naif-Al-Mutawa, a psychologist and writer from Kuwait, believes they can. He has developed a successful comic book series that features 99 Islamic superheroes battling for a better world.
The number 99 is no accident: each of the 99 superheroes embodies a virtue or name attributed to Allah. In a region where suicide-bombers are sometimes portrayed as role models, the comics offer a non-violent alternative for conflict resolution. That has angered some conservatives, but has not prevented the comic books from growing in popularity. In 2009, about one million of the comic books were sold world-wide. There's also an accompanying theme park in Kuwait and an animated cartoon series as well.

  • A typical plastic shaikh , no real Ilm , Try spending some of that black money on real Madrasas to avoid future kufr like this,

Le Islam o juain? Arab sell outs

  • @abukhan21

Its Shame To Have People Who think like you .... :(

  • Ah Please!! Ive read the 99 and im a muslim myself!

The comic sucks Bad!! The plot is so predictable and the stories are extremely boring!!

You cant compare Teshkeel to DC Or Marvel !!

  • @hurahman We have over a million dead Muslims in Iraq constant attacks on Muslim women and children in Palestine, Kashmere and Chechniya but your major concern is tight clothing. People like you makes me think Muslim Unity will never happen. You will be concerned with what everyone is wearing at the meetings.

  • @hurahman True true true!!!

  • These names belongs to Allah only, no cartoon character should be named as Allah's name. This contradicts with Shahadah and teaching of Prophet Muhammad (SWT), as a Muslim we are not allowed to draw human & animals.Haram!!!!!. Chances to be involved in shrik is very high. Fantasy and religion are two different avenue, one is imagination and other is fact. Moreover, as a psychologist, author must know that the action cartoon and games have bad impact on childrens mind.

  • @hurahman Your words only speak for you hurahman, "our heroes" seems to equate "my heroes" in that context. Find the equivalent of 1.57 billion Muslims to agree with you and perhaps your suggestion won't ring so hollow.

Until then, this "99" seems to be a more constructive alternative to violent war between the prophet-followers.

  • wait i thought it was haram to draw alive figures please help????

  • @hurahman oh, come on..it's just marketing strategy, maybe he hope that it will be read also by non-muslims...

  • good point...but "our" heores should never wear such unislamic clothing as that does not represent our culture...
