  • Amory Lovins should be the secretary of energy, if he is 1/2 right we'd see the economy turn around just based on energy savings.

  • I heard him mention once that he was asked to be Secretary of Energy. He said he would on the condition that he could abolish the DOE and start over. I wish they had listened, maybe they will one day.

  • @chadis....: no. Many economists agree even many conservatives that a tax on land values is the best way to induce the most efficient use of land and natural resources. This is so because the raw value of land/natural resources is created 100% by the community and failure to tax it gives enormous incentive to speculate. A heavy tax on oil, gas and coal would have already resulted in alternative energies being developed and used because the energy companies would not have been given a free lunch.

  • @ourearthhome are these two strategies mutually exclusive?

  • Dear Amory, a change in the technology of energy may help but it will not begin to save the environment as long as ownership of land and natural resources for profit goes on unabated. The most powerful green technology will be public policy called land value taxation which requires land owners to pay to the community the community created value of the land to be used for public purposes. Left in private hands community created land value is the entire motivation for all environmental abuse.
