@jhshifris1 Sanders died of lung cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital, 5/5/95.Before he joined WJZ-TV in 1972, their news was mired in 3rd place: WBAL-TV was #1, WMAR-TV was #2. Saunders became a news anchor in 1977. Three years later, WJZ with Jerry Turner, Sanders, Bob Turk (weather) and Nick Charles (sports) were a runaway #1, with more viewers than their competitors combined.
