Casting on is the first step to knitting. Make a slip knot and slide onto needle in right hand. Put yarn side not connected to ball on top of left thumb, put yarn piece connected to ball on top of index finger. Grab those two pieces of yarn with remaining fingers and pull down to form a loop around thumb. put needle up through loop on thumb and pull down yarn around index finger into and down through loop on thumb. Remove thumb and tighten below by reinserting thumb again. Repeat.

  • You can just start knitting and when you are all done you will have another tail at the end of your project or several depending on what you are making. You just weave them all in with a darning needle. I will try to post another video on this.

  • Thank you, this video was very helpful! However, I would like to know what to do when I'm done casting on? I have a little bit of a tail left and it seems like it should get cut or tied off before I begin my stitches... no one seems to cover this in-between step =/

  • thanks!
