Relief Society Choir from the West Point, Clearfield, Sunset, Clinton, and Syracuse Stakes in Utah sing "There is Sunshine in My Soul Today" during the General Relief Society session of the 179th Semiannual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held at the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah in September 2009.

"There is Sunshine in My Soul Today" Hymn #227

1. There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my light.

[Chorus]
Oh, theres sunshine, blessed sunshine
When the peaceful happy moments roll.
When Jesus shows his smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.

2. There is music in my soul today,
A carol to my King,
And Jesus listening can hear
The songs I cannot sing.

3. There is springtime in my soul today,
For when the Lord is near,
The dove of peace sings in my heart,
The flowrs of grace appear.

4. There is gladness in my soul today,
And hope and praise and love,
For blessings which he gives me now,
For joys laid up above.

Text: Eliza E. Hewitt, 1851-1920

Music: John R. Sweney, 1837-1899

Relevant Scriptures: Isaiah 60:19, Psalm 16:9, 11

  • @stevyization pt3 Life after death is one of the tenets of our faith. The spirit or soul leaves the body at death and returns to that God who created it. We believe that there we are reunited with loved ones already passed on. Jesus was resurrected, he was reunited with his body again. We believe all people will be reunited to their bodies, many at His Second Coming.

  • @stevyization pt 2 Christmas was set over a pagan holiday as well as Sundays and other dates, though Jesus did die around Easter time it too was set over a pagan holiday. The self styled authorities of the time were losing adherents to the pagans so substituted made-up Christian holidays on the same days to "hang on" to all their followers. Christmas is still a great idea but it's place on the calendar wasn't inspired. I agree, we all die, however all Christians believe in a life after death.

  • @stevyization Hello again. Constantine did a LOT of things with zero authority from anyone. Authority to do things in God's name died out when the Apostles did. That started the Great Apostasy, the Dark Ages were literally that-dark, no Light of Christ in them, just a few inspired people within those centuries, but no authority direct from God, the direct line of authority died out. That is why we claim it was necessary for the line of authority to be reinstated, as it was, to Joseph Smith.

  • @tinselPixie part 2. Your being as vague as the Mornons I am studying with. Admittedly they are doing their best but perhaps you can help them. The Bible is explicit, when you are dead you are dead, there is no contradiction, its simple and easily understood. My Mormon friends said that dead people can live on, that is Paganism and I know this view of the dead isn't strictly Mormon in origin. Constantine who was a Pagan (as you said) also had this view. Please help them.

  • @tinselPixie Ok, I am studying with some Mormons at the moment and they have no answers for some of the questions the Bible explictly states. For instance Emperor Constantine of Rome changed the day of worship from Sabbath to a Satanic and Pagan day of worship (Sunday) a change for which the is NO Biblical authority. Your telling me that Satanism and Paganism in a day of worship, not ordained by God, are being given a green light by whoever gave the book of Mormon. Surely not...

  • @stevyization ...part 2, If the Bible and Book of Mormon don't seem to synch up in your view it's due to many many people, not just the Niceans, putting their own spins on the Bible over the centuries, and removing many plain and precious truths from it. The Book of Mormon only being translated once doesn't have that problem. That is presuming you believe it to be the Word of God and hey, don't take my word for it. Literally ask God about it and if you're sincere you'll find out for yourself.

  • @steevyization...well that's the problem when the Bible's gone through over 23 translations and edits and the Book of Mormon hasn't. Way back old Emperor Constantine of Rome, yes the same guy who did a death bed conversion to Christianity, held the Nicene Council in which he demanded the 60 odd Christian sects of the time get their acts together and agree on a "common gospel." There was a lot of arguing, haggling and editing of the Bible, many plain and precious things were lost from it.

  • @thisisasockpuppet Oh, you are naughty :)))

  • @tinselPixie Not quite sure they stand together. There are some major doctrinal differences like 'the state of the dead', 'the Sabbath', 'The Law of God', 'The necessity of the Second Coming', 'The nature of Heaven and Hell'. Did JS get complete revelations because there seemed to be huge gaps in his understanding of basic doctrine established from the dawn of time as we know it :(.

  • @thisisasockpuppet Really? Is that statistic true...
