Video evidence of a bug in the folder view on Windows Explorer in Windows 7.

The first double click event on a newly-selected folder causes a scrolling problem. The expandable triangles on the left of folder names do not exhibit this bug. Subsequent double-click events on the same folder do not exhibit this bug. It happens when you first double click a folder in the folder view. It is plain to see and 100% reproducible. It was present in the beta and the RC and now in the final release.

  • I'm the one who requested this feature because I suffer from low blood pressure and this really helps me boost it up. Sorry folks!

  • @sparkloweb LOL!

  • Just got upgraded at work a few weeks ago and this is THE most frustrating thing for me about windows 7. I manage a lot of projects and I'm constantly digging in folders and it's like I'm fighting this thing. I was hoping to find a hack of some sort to change this behavior.

  • @GreenDestiny If you install Classic Shell (google it, first result), you can set your Explorer to Vista style which removes the bug.

  • isn't a bug!

  • @Supermejo97 Of course it is a bug.

  • @woodgate50 Also if you drag from the right panel to a folder in the left panel the target folder jumps away from under the mouse pointer, it goes up the screen, then you have to chase the folder up the list and whats worse you sometimes run out of touchpad space or mouse mat space and have to abort the process by creeping back to the right panel.

  • I wonder if folks at Microsoft actually "dog food" Win 7 and use it themselves. You would think their own workers would give some pretty vocal feedback about how f'ing annoying this is. "We'll fix it in Windows 8" is not a solution I want to hear.

  • @Supermejo97 Please explain to me why this is not a bug or why this is a useful 'feature'?

  • This "bug" is even worse when simply using folders and sub-folders. For example, if I open "My Documents" and scroll down so a sub-folder is at the top of the file list, then open that sub-folder, as soon as I hit the back button or click the "My Documents" in the address bar at the top, the sub-folder now appears at the BOTTOM of the window. It doesn't matter how you open it, or how many times you open it and go back, it will always move the view scroll to the bottom. Blargggg!!!

  • @sparkloweb Very hard to understand that Microsoft fails to recognize this as a bug. I'm quite happy with W7, but this behaviour is really driving me crazy!

  • I absolutely f*cking hate this. I'd like to kill the developer who made this feature.

  • Psychic - excellently presented and clearly explained -- thanks!

this "feature" has been driving me crazy ... why would the geniuses at Redmond force users to make those extra clicks?

unrelated to the problem, I find it somewhat humorous that, in the suggested videos in the right-hand column, uTube would include Python's "Ministry of Silly Walks" (now *there's* an organization that does things right!)
