@Stuneill Bravo, Stuart! I've been studying roles like Arturo and Gualtiero (Pirata), and listening to how you negotiate through the difficult passages -- which really is the entire role :) -- has really helped me. Thank you!
So true, the Met really isn't concerned with showcasing the best talent, rather they are concerned with showcasing the biggest STARs. It is sad that the Met is finally getting opera to the public again, with its movie and telecasts... and they choose to push this garbage. A prime example is going to be the upcoming Armida, it will probably be the only commercial dvd for a long time, and people will associate Flemings singing with the role for generations. Very sad.
The current Met director believes in chewing up and spitting out seasoned performers. We should still be hearing Swenson, Eaglen, Millo, Devia, Hong, ect. But he doesnt think so.. So we get cuter, younger, and thinner of voice and looks as replacements.
Stuart, that was remarkable!!! I think if any of us admirers could sing half as well as you sing when sick, then we would be the happiest people on earth!!!! Your Arnold was superb - one of the best!!!! I look forward to hearing much much more from you!!!
Your Singing in Damnation of Faust with Sir Colin Davis in New York was some of the most beautiful singing I have ever heard - why aren't you singing at the MET? Why are you just covering? The MET tenor I heard in Lucia last week was just awful - should be a very good role for you. Also love your I Puritani recording - just georgous bel canto singing - and heard the Verdi Requiem - again beautiful, beautiful.
No excuses needed, I'm sure those of us familiar with your work know that you're one of the most consistent tenors in the biz. On a side note, I enjoyed your Verdi Requiem last week in W-S. Bravo!
Thank you to whomever posted this clip. It brings back great memories of my times working/singing with Ruth Ann. We did six performances in Geneva before going th The Met to do four performances 1997. Great job Ruth Ann. Best Elvira since Sutherland and still the best. It is a shame we don't do this more often. (As I side note, I was sick as a dog for this performance. 101 fever. Next day I was flown to Vienna to see specialist.)

@coloraturafan2 couldn't agree more. The MET produces a lot of spectacle and a lot of garbage.
