  • The real name of this tune is simple gifts by

Joseph Bracket 1797 you can hear it played on

audiosparx by searching for simple gifts.

This is just a rip off.

  • Amazing that people are uppity about things like this. Well!!! The song was hardly known for years and years and years until American composer Aaron Copland used the melody in his composition "Appalachian Spring" (I'm truly sorry if you feel that is a rip off too). The music and original lyrics are by Joseph Brackett. You are correct. The lyrics to a song "Lord of the Dance" (BASED upon the tune) were written by Sydney Carter in 1963. This arrangement by Larry Fleming followed later.

  • People are uppity because someone always has to know more than the other guy. Great arrangement and great singing, but I thought Disney didn't permit the performance of sacred pieces.

  • Thank you. But as to Disney not permitting the performance of sacred music? Where on earth did you hear that? I can tell you from experience that that is not true at all. In fact, the majority of the music I have performed at Disney has been sacred. In fact, the directors at The Disney Honors (their top choral festival) don't allow the pop stuff many choirs tend to do these days. For pop repertoire, they will suggest another of their festivals- Festival Disney.
