Learning the 3x3 is really easy, actually. I learned how to solve it in one day

Actually if you can do a 3x3 you can do a pretty good portion of a 7x7 already. Learning the 3x3 is really hard, but once you learn it the others are pretty easy to figure out.

You should give it a try.

it took me about 3 weeks to learn all the algorithms to solve the regular rubiks cube. this must have taken months.
