  • Thanks for posting. Schnittke, what a genius, ahead of his time!

  • @roccoprch1 Where other composers among the greatest seem to just follow the rules, whatever these rules are, Schnittke is always free to go wherever he wants to go and he is not afraid of doing what he really wants to do. He has a sense of humor and humanity that Ligeti and the composers from the German school seem to lack... He may even give the impression of always questioning everything... The more I listen to his music to more amazingly surprised I am with his genius and humanity...

  • @nadaniente115a Hello my friend. I couldn't agree with you more, with regards to Schnittke. Some people find his music, like this piece, somewhat disturbing. I consider him a true genius. Also, you did fantastic job with the selection of paintings,

great pairing of music and paintings! Thank you.

  • @roccoprch1 I am amazed when I feel that in his symphonies and concertos he kind of does it as in his quatuors and trios and sonatas, meaning that he is not impressed by the need other composers felt of being academically respectful of some kind of solemnity and serious compositional syntax that they would not dare to disrespect (so greatly!) as he does... His violin even in the concertos is searching something else freely and behaves like the rebel boy of the chamber music... :-)

  • I wish Schnittke were still with us, think what he could have done with all the other christmas songs I like so much,,, not

  • This piece has always inspired me so much. I don't find that note disturbing at all. I find it mesmerizing, mystifying and again, deeply inspiring. Thanks so much for posting it. And yes, great choice of images as well!

  • Does anyone know the painting at 3:56? Or any of the paintings?

  • Sounds....different....<3

  • I love this so much. It's the deepest, darkest night. It's the most mysterious silent night I have heard. Wonderful.

  • lol, um, its better when he does this to beethoven though...

  • Oh my god... That is quite a use of scordatura! Thank you for uploading this.

  • fabulous stuff: great to hear this on Radio 3 the other day, in the middle of the afternoon!
