  • hey KC, how have you been doing this year? I know you started off hot.

  • I'm hoping to get into the 190's at the moment. The Herts league is 4/5 with 207 performance. Middlesex league is good too with about 190 performance. British championship last year was okay too, which i think counts.

  • To be honest, with all the videos you post on youtube, I believe you are becoming a victim of opening preparation in your games. Word would travel quick in my league if a top player was posting his own games and thought patterns on youtube, and I would be the first to check them out if I knew I was playing them in my league. I think you should try to avoid posting or playing blitz games that would expose the openings you intend to use in league and tournament chess. Thanks for the game anyway.

  • I'm not sure the "Morozovich line" in particular with gxf6 is that great anymore. Korchnoi seemed to do well in the black side of the classical with just Be7 against Bg5. I might do a few videos on that.

  • BTW, overall my rating average for the Herts league is still about 207 - I'm on 4/5 so I'm not too scared about specific preparation against me. Well it hasn't bothered me that much so far. I don't think the opponent prepared this line, but maybe I'm wrong.

  • Interesting that he offered a draw in such an undecided position!

I am starting to use the byrne, I quite like it.

Could you possibly go over some sample lines in the game where you don't advance the pawns. Fritz also likes f5 at times, but this seems to give long-term weaknesses. How else could you proceed??

  • Hi KC. Thanks for the video.

I always find something new when I go back to watch the many videos you've made over the years--just lately, I've been watching the games you went over during the Gibraltar tournament, and it's a real pleasure to be able to get a sense of the atmosphere in the tournament hall through your game replays peppered with enlightening commentary. Thank you.

  • Interesting opening KC, it's not one I know well at all. Very similar to a Hedgehog except with a semi open d file instead of c file and the added dynamism of the open g file. It would have certainly been interesting had he castled kingside, and also if the game had continued and you got to push your queenside pawns like you were planning; it was looking like it could become sharp fairly quickly. Anyway, best of luck for the rest of the season.

  • What GUI is this?

  • Hey KC! I kind of like this variation too, and I agree that sometimes you cannot fully exploit the dynamism of black's position due to severe structural issues. Mainly, when white castle Queenside, with LS bishops gone (3:21), I re-route my knight to f8-g6. Semiopen file is scarcely important, and so I can advance the pawns with the knight covering the dark squares, in particular e5&f5. I believe Dr. Perlis played so vs Nimzowitsch, and he had quite a good game. Let me know your opinion!

You could be right, maybe it wasn't prepared, but you have to admit you are still leaving yourself at a massive disadvantage should someone you are playing decide to look through you're recent videos. You could use this to your advantage as long as you keep an ace card up your sleeve! Well done on 4/5, I am finding it at tough ride at the moment, my first year in the top league on board one so I am not getting the juicy combo's I am used to lol.
