A young boy finds a red balloon and plays with it. Turns out he balloon has a mind of its own and actually follows him around (it's a pretty lovable balloon!). The other boys in the neighborhood are jealous of the balloon and want it for themselves.
**SPOILERS!**
Eventually the other boys corner and knock down the boy, mess around with the balloon and eventually pop it (they throw rocks at it). It's very sad. All the balloons in the city gather together and give the boy a cluster balloon ride.

Its scary we're getting close to the level of Hollywood incompetence like "Family Feud The Movie." and having Hans Greuber with Steven Seagel to be in a unnecessary sequel of a Foreign classic.
Altough the Red Balloon did actually get a wonderful "sequel" or "remake"
