Computer Repair: Missing or Corrupt Error Message System32\Drivers\Fastfat.sys

To resolve this problem do the followings:-
1] Boot computer with the Windows XP CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
2] To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
3] At the command prompt, type the following commands:-

cd \windows\system32\drivers [Press the ENTER Key]

ren fastfat.sys fastfat.old [Press the ENTER Key]

If the fastfat.sys file is there and corrupt it will rename it. If it is not there then it was missing.

4]At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
copy X:\i386\fastfat.sys drive:\windows\system32\drivers [Where X=CD-ROM Drive]

5]Remove the Windows XP CD from CD-ROM drive, type quit, and then
press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.

6. Restart the system.

@prokillersniper Sounds like you have a bootkit virus, thats what TDL4 does when it infects a computer.

@supertie21 lol I was gonna ask that question anyways does the windows vista xps420 work on this? Cause like when I turn my computer on all it gives me are error codes like bootable:no and stuff like that. Please help is appreciated.

hi my daughter's dell insp.,1545 turns on black screen says invalid disc please incert disc then press any key/ windows wont start. and only options are f2 and f12 it wont load to f8 or anything else and f2&f8 wont make it start working. please help me. sincerly, perry
