@AnthonyUK : I've restored the same TV set last year, and it was one of the first to get the "Spatial" effect. It give you the impression of a wilder deeper sound field.
A kind of 2HP Virtual Dolby surround, a decade before.
It also do the trick with monoral sound (as Secam is mono...)
Early stereo broadcasting in australia used Zweiton (or A2) as used in Germany;this is an analogue stereo tv broadcast system that splits the mono carrier in two and uses a stereo coding system that adds the second stereo sound channel and this is detected by the stereo tv detector circuitry and stereo sound broadcasts are output automatically thru the tv speakers. Mono broadcasts produce 2 channel mono obviously.
Philips really want you to have the very best there is! Stereo sound on TV makes programmes come alive and sound real with a lifelike clarity and omnidirectional soundfield that envelops the viewer and stereo tv adds dimension and depth too to the viewing experience.
@CLS2086 Most modern LCD/Plasma tv's have a spatial or surround setting of some sort which does same things.
