In this 51/2 minute video cip, ira Chaleff posits that followers do not serve leaders but that both serve a common purpose. He also acknowledges that leaders and followers pursue their own self interest. Followers sometimes assume that taking risks in speaking truth to power puts their own self interest at risk. Chaleff also discusses the exposure leaders face and the strategic consequences of their actions. Therefore having a range of viewpoints and expertise is in the leader's self interest, Becoming a follower who helps the leaders avoid mistakes is in the follower's self interest. This is the fifth clip of seven from Ira Chaleff's presentation as part of "Conversations in Transformational Leadership," hosted by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2008. Ira Chaleff is author of the classic management text, "The Courageous Follower: Standing Up To & For Our Leaders (Berrett-Koehler, 2009) now in its 3rd, revised edition.
