Singer/songwriter/outlaw/hero Steve Earle performing a storming live rendition of 'Tom Ames' Prayer' during the now legendary set with Guy Clark and the late Townes Van Zandt, at the world famous Bluebird Cafe.
The live recordings are available on the quite brilliant album 'Together At The Bluebird Cafe' and the studio version of this particular song can be found on Steve's 'Train A Comin' ' album.

  • And that ladies and gentleman is a songwriter. End of conversation.

"You know I ain't ever prayed before

But it always seemed to me

That praying's the same as begging, Lord

And I don't take no charity."

    Brilliance.

  • Nice clear audio thank.. :)

  • Steve is my hero.

  • @CollarboneOfAHare That's the verse I keep quoting to people. This is also the song that introduced me to Steve Earle, via Robert Earl Keen's cover. Yet another debt I owe Robert Earl.

  • @CollarboneOfAHare :

Yeah but who in the hell am I talkin' to

there ain't no one here but me

Then he cocked both his pistols and he spit in the dirt

and he walked out in the street

...sends chills down my spine every single time I hear it.

  • Train A Comin' is Earle's best in my opinion. Highly underappreciated album.

  • @CollarboneOfAHare Amen to that!

Earle, Clark and Van Zandt Live at The Bluebird is undoubtedly one of the best albums you can ever buy. Three maestro's, three guitars, one stage and one kindred spirit - an amazing live performance!!

  • @CollarboneOfAHare Amen to that!

  • don't stop the real music, thanks...
