Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Review (Part 2 of 7)

Part two now focuses on the second biggest problem with the Phantom Menace, the story. The mystery plot lacking direction and emotional involvement was really the other big problem. No tension, no drama, no stakes. Characters aimlessly follow along the events.

There was a potentially good movie somewhere inside. The Phantom Edit showed that.

It's just that George Lucas made poor editing decisions, poor directing of the actors, and just made the story even worse from his original 1981 treatment that was leaked on the internet recently.

It is still pretty bad when diehard fans still defend the movie as underrated or something. It's just flat out bad stuff.

The Phantom Edit was okay, but the movie still is what it is. You can't turn shit into gold.

4, 5, and 6 didn't need to be built up to, especially with 3 subpar piles of crap that got almost everything wrong anyway. Why are prequel tards so full of shit. Take your own advice and don't watch the review if you don't like it, don't bitch about it...get over it!

There is only one word to describe George Lucas and that is "quixotic." He certainly has a great imagination, but he is incapable of focusing his ideas. The people who created Star Wars knew that and kept him on a short leash. Unfortunately, in addition to being quixotic, he has a huge ego (compensating for something much?). When given that much power and control, that is just a recipe for disaster..

One the bright side, if Phantom Menace wasn't bad, this review wouldn't exist which would suck. I've watched RLM's star wars reviews like 100 times. I don't know if I'd give them up for a prequel trilogy that would've been good. :P

Nope, the deathstar having a fatal flaw isn't plot armor for the Rebels either. Sometimes details get overlooked, even more so when building the first ever moon sized planet destroying laser.
