Yep, this movie was used on me too. It is of course a tacky, glib, presumptuous attempt to manipulate.

Since then I made a serious, tenacious study of philosophy, psychology, and history of religion. I balanced my Western upbringing with a deliberate and objective examination of Eastern philosophy.

If one wishes to graduate evangelical fear mongering, the way is not old fashioned Fin de siecle Nietzschean atheism. Such deprives one of what Jung calls "the ecstatic element."
