Isnt it wierd that both great players are exiled. Bobby is wanted by American Authorities and Spassky exiled because he had been beated by Fischer. How wierd is that?

Twenty years later, Fischer's chess skill may have atrophied little, but Spassky was in 92 only the 96th strongest player in the world. Its unfortunate he had to lose it (his mind, that is) like that, and to have reopened that festering wound in such a way that left him running for the rest of his life.

AND HlS ONLY CHESSMATCH LATER WAS A REMATCH...
JEEZ...
ITS SURPRISING BECAUSE HE WAS SO CONFIDENT DEFEATING ALL OTHER POSSIBLE CHALLENGERS
HE SAID HE WAS HAPPY THAT HE PROVED HE WAS THE GREATEST TO HIMSELF
BUT HE DIDNT PROVE IT CUZ HE DIDNT STAY IN THE GAME..
HE DIDNT PROVE TO HIMSELF AND THE WORLD THAT HE WAS THE BEST..
ALSO l THINK AMERICA NEEDS TO GIVE MORE INCENTIVE TO ITS CHESS PLAYERS.

Fischer's antics in the first 2 games were calculated to achieve a psychological edge. From that point forward, he basically blew Spassky off the board. The match was never close. Fischer obliterated his opposition in an unprecedented fashion leading up to this match and was a vastly superior player to Spassky by the time they famously met in Iceland. After that match, unfortunately, Fischer basically cracked up and lived a tragic existence
Everybody goes on about Bobby, and rightly so, he was probably the greatest chess player of all time, but let's not forget Boris here, he was a great player and that he seems to be a really decent, good natured man.

I think what Fischer is talking about when he's going on about "The Russians used chess as propaganda for 20 years" etc is how in Russia chess wasn't just a game, it was taken very seriously. And it IS well known, not just raving lunacy supposedly from Fischer, that chess was used very much politically in Russia, even against other Russians.
