    Sure they can be used, but the problem as I see it is that food can be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

    I think a good test is to put a can of open cat food between you and your dog and call your dog. If your dog comes to you directly, you can trust your dog's reliabilty.

  • I disagree greatly that treats should not be used as reinforcement. I would agree that it should not be used all the time or as the only reward.

  • I once upon a time was the hotdog shaking idiot and boy did I look like an idiot running after my dog begging her not to go in the street. I dont use treats for training purposes any longer. My dog responds to my praise and physical contact a million percent better than the slimey hot dog pieces!
