This unit is a late 70s to early 1980s NOS Realistic DX 300 communication receiver recently won from Ebay USA..It was made in Japan and reportedly it was an ex-display unit stored for many years in the store room of a Radio Shack outlet (Tandy Corp)..It was handsomely built even by today's standard n looks like the Yaesu FRG-7..Like the FRG-7, it is based on the principle of the Wadley Loop and apparently it was one of the first radios marketed by Tandy Corp to have a digital frequency display..In my opinion, its performance is only mediocre...Outdoor antenna is a 150 ft long wire in the form of an Inv. L..Great for listening to stations like VOA, BBC, China Radio Int'l, Japanese, Russian and European "big guns" stations..not so great for listening to the "smaller" tropical bands and the HAM bands as it is not very sensitive and suffers from poor selectivity and rejection..no "true filters" are built in even though it offers a selection of Narrow, Normal or Wide listening mode..de YC0NSI.

Hi yc0nsi
You are right the DX300 is an ordinary performer.
The DX302 had filters added which was an improvement but still was no where near comparable to a FRG-7.
The DX300 and 302 however were VERY popular due to good marketing and low sale price.
If your 300 is in as new condition , it still is a nice radio. :-)
