I took this video while traveling in Afghanistan in 2005. This segment contains some shots of Nangarhar province, a trip to Bamiyan through the Gohrband valley, and some footage around Kabul and the Shomali plains.

Thanks for the information about Mikrorayon and Darul-Aman. I also misidentified the de-mining crew; the organization is called Halo Trust.

  • Hi! This is AWESOME! I would love to know a) what was that bombed out multi-story building? (Occupied by the kids) b) What was domed bombed out building? c) Who were the three guys in blue?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THESE VIDEOS!!!!!

  • The answer to your questions are: a) the building complex is called Microrayon(apartment buildings built during the Soviet occupation and destroyed during the Mujahadeen wars); b) Darlaman Palace, the old presidential (king?) palace. c) The three guys in with the blue are de-mining guys that work for Hope Trust.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the videos!

sorry but it is not really correct.

    1. They started to build mikrorayon #1 1958 and it was already finished in the 1960s. Then came mikrorayon #2 and #3 and it was already finished in the early 1970s. So before the russian occupation.

    2. Darul-Aman palace was build 1923 by King Amanullah who wanted this building for the afghan parliament, but it never moved in. After Amanullah it was used for the public works ministry in the 1960s

    nice videos!!!

  • It is painful to see the empty space where the Buddha used to be. I remember seeing the footage released by the taliban when they blew the Buddha statue up. It made me feel very sick, sad and angry. I think that the local people, with help from volunteers from around the world, are now rebuilding the statue.

  • amazing footage.

    great job!

  • THANKS SO MUCH! I've emailed you on YouTube with more questions, if you'd be so kind.

    =-)

  • beautiful, my homeland.

  • Surreal contrast to see deserts and snowtops in the same shot... Really nice =) Althou it looks kinda spooky and quite out there :S
