Royals of Afghanistan of the Barakzai dynasty from the time of the emirate under Dost Mohammad Khan to the present day. In 1926 the Emirate of Afghanistan became the Kingdom of Afghanistan under Amanullah Khan who secured recognition of Afghan independence after an attack on British India. A period of instability followed the end of his reign and continued until 1929 with the reign of Mohammed Nadir Shah. He was followed by his son Mohammed Zahir Shah who brought many modern reforms to Afghanistan. In 1973, while out of the country, he was overthrown by a republican coup after which the country soon came under communist domination and Soviet aggression.

It so sad that so called "educated" people can't even get along online! No wonder Afghanistan is facing such horrible times. If we can't even get along here then what makes us so sure that we can survive as a nation? Very sad!!!

I am an american who is interested in the afghan monarchy, I am curious to know if the majority of afghans would welcome monarchy and what would be the odds of it coming back?

Would that be greeted by the Afghans in general and the Taliban in particular?

I repeat my call for restoring the monarchy with the successors of Mohammed Zahir Shah as king and crown prince to distinguish their independence and their unity above politics and tribalism or ethnic groups.

Let the monarchy be restored above the regionalisms and tribalisms and political ambitions. The son of Zahir Shah (recognized even by the Taliban as "Father of the Nation") become Head of State as constitutional monarch, as in Europe, and let the politicans fight it out for the government. There must be unity in Afghanistan.
