Pledge to Attend the 100 Days Without A Hospital Rally on October 17, 2010

New York State Assemblymember Richard N. Gottfried criticised New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg last night, during a town hall meeting of Chelsea and Greenwich Village residents. The mayor, who likes to get involved in issues that are important to New York City, did not participate in trying to save St. Vincent's, the Hon. Gottfried said.

Separately, as was reported by the Associated Press in an article published yesterday on The Kansas City Star's website, Mayor Bloomberg had this to say :

" ' It's very sad. I wish the hospital could stay open. But the bottom line is, it's not going to, ' Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Friday on his weekly radio show. "

The same AP report also included the following information :

"Since it opened in 1849, the famed Manhattan hospital has treated cholera victims, survivors of the Titanic and hundreds of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. It also was at the forefront of the early response to the AIDS epidemic. St. Vincent's was the last Catholic-affiliated hospital in New York City. The nearest top-level trauma center is now Bellevue Hospital, more than two miles away."

As has been reported by NY1, at the time that the Board of Trustees voted to close the hospital, St. Vincent's, with 400 inpatient beds, was employing 3,500 people and was providing life-saving treatments in its emergency room to about 60,000 patients per year. (Part 4 of a series of videos.)

  • How do you mark youtubes as favorites? Mike's priority is the banks! Disgusting.

  • @Suzannahartist you have to click on the share button on the bottom center of the video panel. From there, you pick favourites.

Can you believe that there is now no hospital from the old Beekman Downtown Hospital to Roosevelt Hospital ?

  • @astoria25 nightmare but so many since Mike took over. Like a plastic surgeon on a bad reality show the city is unrecognizable and unlivable unless you are rich thanks to Mike Bloomberg and his real estate gang including NYU, Cooper Union. Columbia U all exploiting our neighborhood.

  • @Suzannahartist Who is the city planner, who is allowing this to happen ? It is negligent city planning to allow such a large area of Manhattan to go without any hospital. Everybody in this city knows what crosstown traffic is like. How many people have to die while stuck in traffic before somebody realises what a major mistake it was to close St. Vincent's Hospital ?

  • @astoria25 If you think Manhattan is unrecognisable and unlivable, there is a solution. Leave!

  • @hoochee001 You are nasty, who said NYC was unrecognisable, unlivable ? We are working on a solution, so that nobody has to die, for lack of a hospital in their community. You keep trying to put words in my mouth. I wish you'd have the integrity to fight for what you believe in, instead of picking on people, who have more courage than you. Seriously, at least we don't go around posting nasty, anonymous comments on your profile using multiple personality YouTube accounts.

  • @astoria25 You keep telling us that about community crushing development. So now that the community has been crushed, why does it need a hospital?

We're not letting Mount Sinai Hospital take over St. Vincent's. It's going to NYU for pennies on the dollar.

  • @astoria25 the worst city planner mega millionaire socialite Amanda the people's Burden
