I haven't done much lately, so I might as well randomly start an LP. Welcome to Fire Emblem 5: Thracia 776!
Made in 1999 (Very late, even for an SNES game!), This game is the midquel to Fire Emblem 4: Geneology of the Holy War, taking place in between FE4's first and second generations. It is regarded by many FE veterans as the hardest in the series, placing you in awkward scenerios, and pulling ambush spawns out the ass. Despite being one of the hardest in the series, Fire Emblem 5 is one of the most balanced, not just in difficulty, but in characters. You can get away with using just about any character at some point in the game. You will most likely have to anyways.
The game introduces many mechanics to the series. For one, this game is RESPONSIBLE for the dreaded fog of war gimmicks found in modern fire emblem games.
One of the coolest mechanics in this game is the capture feature. Units are given the capture command if they are put against an enemy who has a lower build stat than them, or the selected unit is mounted (Mounted enemy units cannot be captured unless you make them dismount first!). Once given the option, if your unit manages to deplete the enemy's health, the enemy is captured, allowing you to steal their items, and, in some situations, recruit the enemy (or just get rewarded in some other way). This is a feature that I really feel should've been put in other fire emblem games, but, for some reason, isn't.
Another feature found in this game is the stamina system, which basically prevents you from using the same units over and over again. This forces you to either cycle between units, or use a special item that restores their stamina, allowing them to be used again. The main lord of the game, Leaf, is immune to this mainly cause you have to bring him on every map (Even though he's not that good a unit :P).
Aside from those two things, the game is best compared to Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn in terms of game mechanics. You've got skills, authority stars (called leadership stars in this game), and a whole bunch of other awesome crap. The only thing you don't have are support conversations, which sadly means that you won't get to learn much about the characters you use.
Oh, and let's not forget. Like every Fire Emblem game, this one's loaded with hot women that can kick ass. If Sara was legal, I'd totally hit that.
Anyways, with that out of the way, let's get started with the chapter's synopsis.
Our main character, Leaf along with his caretaker, Fin, has been living in the town of Fiana for years under the protection of Eyvel, a swordswoman who protects Fiana from Bandits. The Grandbell empire has been looking for Leaf lately. While the Fiana Militia (A small resistance force founded by Eyvel) was fighting off bandits in other villages, Reidric (The Duke of Manster) took Eyvel's and Fin's daughters (Marita and Nanna respectively) hostage in hopes of Eyvel and Fin surrendering Leaf to him. He orders one of his solders, Wiseman, to wait for the Fiana Militia to return to capture Leaf.
Then the Fiana Militia returns and our story begins.
The first chapter is relatively easy, though, a bit longer than most FE first maps. It's got a lot of lance weilding soldiers, but their stats are terrible, so don't mind the weapon triangle much. Just watch the health of your units and use Eyvel as bait and you should be fine.
In this video...
- Marc tells the story of western horsemen
- Redric gives birth to Wiseman (Seriously, that's his name?)
- RED UNITS. RED UNITS EVERYWHERE.
- Othin is an angry man
- Leaf entices the ladies
- Shitty joins the team
- Othin pleasures his uncle
- Enemies come and fist us
- Marc isn't fond of lancewielders.
- Dagda is great at frisbee.
- My terrible paying attention skills result in lulz
- I learn to never trust Fin to drop people off in safe areas
- Kicking ass and taking names is the Fire Emblem way.
- Leaf is a slowpoke
- Eyvel Life Insurance. Get it today.
- Othin is CRAZY (With a hint of mustard)
- The money man comes back to haunt me
- Dagda came.
- Othin and Marty STEAL LEAF'S KEELZ
- Redric loses a son
Upon defeating Wiseman and seizing the village back, Leaf goes searching for Marita and Nanna and realizes that they are missing. Eyvel believes they were brought to Manster by Reidric to be used as hostages. Leaf, feeling Marita and Nanna were taken in his place, decides that he wants to go with Eyvel and assist in rescuing the kids. Eyvel respects Leaf's wishes and tells him that their journey will be starting the next day.
Sweet. Now the plot's started.

Did you know Eyvel is *spoilers*?

@VolkeSatino
Why yes! I DO know Eyvel is a spoiler! She spoils leaf's fun all the time!

And I thought FE8's Hatchet was too good. The 'PugiqSVMn/s' looks even better.
I also thought Knoll's luck stat was horrible. That Marty dude looks... virtually useless. o_o
I hope you get well soon. :)

@Neowolf1991
At least Marty joins earlier where his crappy stats are more feasible.
