Overnight

I saw a picture of myself I didn't recognize
face bent out of shape and full of lines
i thought that i could take my time getting older
but it happened overnight

All my life

I have a memory of you I can't remember
but I recall it was placed in September
I thought the leaves would hang around
before they fell

I can see red shoes and blue velvet
but i can't recall the day that I out grew it
i might have spent some more time on the details
if i knew it would happen overnight

we'll take some photographs and paste them in a book
so someday when we're lost we only have to look
we can take our time to remember
that it happened overnight

I knew I was getting old when I was at a friend's house for dinner, and there's another guest, an attractive girl, and we compare notes, realizing that we went to the same high school. So she's fondly recalling teachers I never heard of, and asks when I graduated, perhaps there was some overlap with teachers and such. When I say "1984, how about you?" She gets this odd look on her face and says, "1984? That's when I was born."

WOW nice song Dol :) Sorry I have been away; finding joy in little things. i am so glad you are a small part of my life; over the years we touch people in ways we can not even begin to realise; but it is always for a reason. Another great one, D. It's true and beautiful and those simple notes at the end got me a little teared up. That is a good thing. :)

Don't sweat 40. You're a very young 40; you're creative and talented and you still do the work. Some people don't. I'd say: pity them a little, then grab a brush or the guitar.

I'm past 40 but I know the feeling of doing something creative and thinking, "man, that's cool!" It's truly a gift, and you've got it. 40 is just a start.
