The 1 skate or V 2 skate is a popular cross country skiing technique. CANSI Level 4 instructor Keith Nicol demonstrates typical problems that skiers have and how to correct them. This video is sponsored by Rossignol skis, Infinity Ski Poles, and Menihek Nordic Ski Club in Labrador City. For more ski tips go check out Ski Trax Magazine. All of your videos are extremely helpful, thank you for posting them. I had a question about 1 skate: Should a beginner spend time learning this technique or would they be better off mastering v2 alternate and v1 first? Thanks.

Within CANSI we teach this as a the first skating technique mainly since it promotes good balance-the key to all skating. Sometimes I find that if a student learns offset or V1 first they get that timing grooved in and can't change it so they offset everywhere. Having said that you can certainly learn the others as well since they are useful in different sections of the trail.
Cheers,Keith
