How to make iodine from an Alkali metal iodide, hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide.
Warning: This reaction makes small amounts of chlorine gas and should be performed outside or in a fumehood.

Simple get some potassium or sodium iodide and dissolve in a minimal amount of water. Then add an equal amount of concentrated hydrochloric acid. Check this new volume and measure out five times more 3%hydrogen peroxide. Mix together the two solutions and let stand for ten minutes. Filter the iodine.
You can then purify by vaporization and crystallization.

And by the way: will it work with Lugol's Iodine? Lugol's does allways have some KI in it because of this equilibrium: I2 + I− ⇌ I3− so i thought the reaction would use the KI in the solution and then more would be formed due to Le Chatelier's principle.

What are the chemical reactions involved in this experiment?
I think they are:
NaI + HCl -> NaCl + HI
2 HI + H2O2 -> I2 + 2 H2O
but I am not completely sure:)

@cassiavc I would ask the same. Is there any formation of hydriodic acid? If I am interested on the hydriodic acid, can I filtrate it? How strong is HI compared to HCl? HI sounds to be a good acid to mess around with xD
